RE: Mid CA RV.net SAL Rally - Feb. 13th & 14th 2009

Call me and our 2 daughters crazy because we left at 3:30 am this morning for BLACK FRIDAY shopping. First time I have ever been, but I am here to tell you there are real deals at 5:00 am at Wal Mart. Sleep may be important to some, but saving money rules!!!!!! My oldest bought a 42" TV for $598. If you got there at 5:15 you were shut out on the TV's. We also went to Kohl's, Best Buy and anothe Wal Mart. Can't wait til next year. The key is know what you want.
I'll take your word that $598 is a good price for that TV. Not sure how much your daughter saved but I know I saved $598 by NOT buying it!
I read an article that Walmart shoppers in NY trampled an employee to death when the store opened on Friday. People were upset because the store was closed for several hours because of the incident, they were complaining about how long they stood in line. Such compassionate shoppers, I hope they got some good deals.

RE: Mid CA RV.net SAL Rally - Feb. 13th & 14th 2009

Anybody here crazy enough to hit the stores early today for the Black Friday deals? Our oldest daughter works for a store in the Gilroy outlets and had to go to work at 11:30pm last night. She got a call from her supervisor last night about 10:30 or so telling her that the parking lot was full already!

RE: EVDO router

I'm not sure why someone recommended the MBR1000 router to you. While it is a great router, it's way overkill for your needs. Current price for the MBR1000 at 3gstore is $239.99. The CTR-350 will do everything you need and is currently priced at $99.00 at the 3gstore.

RE: Bluetooth mouse or wireless mouse

I use a Logitech Bluetooth mouse because my laptop has Bluetooth built in. I don't like the USB dongles that you have to plugin to use then unplug to store. Logitech has a new line of wireless mice with a tiny dongle so small that you can leave it plugged in all the time. They call it a Nano receiver. Check it out here: Mouse with Nano receiver
There are companies that make the Nano Bluetooth dongle as well.

RE: NEW ... Cradlepoint MBR1000, CTR500 router firmware

Thanks, the link, also, shows the CTR350, which I ordered today.
Rebecca
Rebecca, the new firmware update is not for the CTR350, it's last update was in July. The one you ordered should have the latest firmware already.
Great choice, it's pretty much all the router an RVer could possibly need.

RE: Laptop GPS info - other than MS S&T

Do you use Garmin's MapSource with your Garmin GPS? If you have MapSource you can download NRoute from the Garmin site which should work with your Garmin GPS for real-time navigation. I can't honestly say that it addresses your complaints but you may want to give it a try to see if it does. It's a free download so it won't cost you a thing to try it. You can only install it on a machine that currently has MapSource installed.

RE: Woman loses 400K to Nigerian Email Scam

The article mentions that the woman was a reverend and a nurse. With a background as a reverend, where she is accustomed to accepting things on faith alone, it makes her a prime target for these kinds of schemes.

RE: C drive is full

Are you sure you have 2 physical hard drives instead of 1 drive partitioned into 2 logical drives?
There are files you can safely move from the C: drive to the D: drive such as picture and video files, music files, document and text files, etc... These are all "data" files and as such can be safely moved to a different drive. You may need to update various applications to let them know where the data files are stored but that is pretty simple.
It is harder to move program files in Windows because much of the setup info for a Windows program is stored in the registry and would need to be updated to point to where the program was moved to.
If you have most of your data files saved in the My Documents folder and such sub-folders as My Pictures, My Music, etc... then you can create a similar folder structure on the D: drive then use Windows Explorer to copy and paste the files to the new folders you created. Once you have verified that the files have been successfully copied to the new folders you can delete them from the C: drive. You may need to empty the Recycle bin to actually regain the disk space.
To help prevent running into this situation again you should get in the habit of saving things to the D: drive. Also, you should get in the habit of installing new programs to the D: drive. When you install a Windows program to the D: drive some of it will still be installed on the C: drive but it will slow down how quickly the C: drive fills up.
If the C: drive is a separate physical drive then you could also install (or have installed) a larger drive to replace the C: drive.
Before you attempt anything, I would advise that you create a backup of your existing system so in case you make a mistake you can restore your data.
I recently helped my sister with this same problem. Her computer had 1 physical drive that was partitioned into 2 logical drives. I used software that allowed me to change the size of the logical drives (called re-partitioning). I was able to shrink the D: drive and expand the C: drive.

RE: Avoid $5 programming charge dishnetwork no landline

To answer the OP's question, you could get a router to plug your Verizon card into and then you could plug the Dish receiver into the router. Your laptop could connect to the router via wifi or cable.

RE: Dash Express GPS

I received the GPS and have started testing it. The internet connectivity works very well wherever I have taken it so far. The real-time traffic info seems a little too delayed to be of real use to me.
You can download small apps to the GPS from their website. I DL'd a couple so far, one that lets me check my stocks while tooling down the road and another that will get the weather report for the immediate area. Nothing fancy but kinda cool.
I'm not convinced that it would be worth the $13/month subscription fee. The jury is still out on that one.
It has searches that will locate the nearest gas stations and let you sort the list by different criteria such as closest or lowest price. I DL'd a search from their website that will look for diesel fuel nearby. The movie theater search is nice in that it will show you the currently playing movies and the showtimes.
Most GPSs I've used in the past have you set what type of route you want such as shortest or fastest. The Dash presents up to 4 different routes and let's you select between them.
Some of the things that I miss from my Garmin is the altitude display and speed display. Can't do routes on the computer then DL to the GPS and can't do routes with multiple stops. Also, there is no trip computer.
They don't support waypoints but you can enter in addresses on their website and the addresses will be sent to the unit and stored. You can then use those addresses to route to.
The unit comes with 110 and 12v power adapters and a nice windshield mount with an adapter to mount on the dash as well.
That's all I have for right now. I'm surprised that no one has shown any interest in this GPS.

RE: Mid CA RV.net SAL Rally - Feb. 13th & 14th 2009

I have been selected to test a new GPS called the DashExpress. It's different from most GPS's because it uses both cellular and wifi to stay connected to the internet. With a live internet connection it can do things like do dynamic routing that uses current traffic info to find the fastest route, it can search for restaurants, movie theaters, gas stations, etc... but because of the internet connection, it will also give you the current gas prices, movie listings, weather and more. It also gets updates, including map updates from the internet connection. The unit goes for $299 and comes with a 3 month subscription, after that the internet subscription is $13/month.
I will be testing the unit for the next 4 months. I got it today and have only had a chance to play with it a little but it seems to be everything it claims to be. At the end of the test I will have the opportunity to buy it for $150.
If anyone is interested in this GPS, it is currently on sale for $199. No, I don't get a kickback if you buy one. :B
I can already say that they have a tough sell on the monthly subscription. I don't use a GPS on a daily basis, only use it 1 or 2 times a month so probably won't want to pay for a month's subscription to only use it a few times per month. Maybe someone that does deliveries or real estate or some job like that would use it everyday and the subscription would be worthwhile.

RE: Is this possible?

A simple copy won't work. You need software such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to create an exact image of the drive that can than be restored to the new drive and will be bootable.
